This month – May 2015 – we celebrate our fifth birthday!
Whenever you reach any kind of milestone, it’s always good to think back over where you’ve come from and what you’ve done. Trickbox launched in May 2010. The UK was still reeling from the economic collapse and it was probably one of the worst times to start a new business. But we pushed on regardless. We had a service to offer and no one was going to stop us!
When Trickbox first began, we primarily offered PPU hire as our main service from our ‘box of tricks’, the flagship ‘Trickbox’ production unit. (Some people, not realising this, would ask where our company name came from and it was fun to regale different stories depending on how far we could run with a joke – “we started as a magician’s act originally…”) Since then, we’ve branched out into offering more wide-ranging OB facilities, catering from anything from live broadcast, to music or festivals.
Our first PPU job was covering a gold conference in the capital’s amazing Guildhall. From there we’ve worked in pretty much every single venue in London including the O2 Arena, Brixton Academy, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, the V&A and the Natural History Museum. We’ve even rubbed shoulders with some big names, such as Alec Baldwin, Al Murray and the Jackson Jaguars.
There have been glamorous jobs and, er, not-so glamorous jobs, and we’ve set up our PPUs and flyaway galleries in the smallest and weirdest of locations – anything from kitchens to corridors. From the V Festival to covering the Scottish Referendum for ITV’s Good Morning Britain, we’ve had early starts and late finishes – and sometimes we’ve worked right through! But I can honestly say that it’s been great fun.
Taking on the management and running of Tower Bridge TV Studios last year presented us with an amazing opportunity, and being able to offer clients full broadcast facilities with a spectacular and iconic backdrop like Tower Bridge is so rewarding.
So that’s us at five! We thank the great people we have worked with so far, from clients to suppliers, freelance crew and talent. And we’re always looking to add to the Trickbox team, so get in touch if you fancy joining our next big adventure.
In the spirit of birthday fun, we plan to celebrate – look out some tweeting action throughout May, admiring all things ‘5’ and we’re planning a little birthday bash later in the year – watch out for the invitation! And in the meantime, here’s to the next milestone…cheers!
