Well it’s not technically even day one yet – the NAB show hasn’t even opened yet but there’s been so many pre-show announcements and leaked information in the last 24 hours, that it seems like a good time to share what NAB news we know already.
Blackmagic Design
True to form, Blackmagic gave nothing away in the run-up to NAB but several photos emerged on Twitter late last night of Blackmagic posters and billboards adorning the NAB site in Vegas. There was also other news of leaked specifications of some of their new products appearing on blog posts. Very convenient that all these photos emerged just as some of the bigger broadcast boys and girls like Sony and Grass Valley were holding their pre-NAB press releases. The three products we’re not supposed to know about are a new URSA, the URSA Mini (has the Sony FS7 and all ENG cameras just had their marching orders?!), a new Micro Cinema Camera – which looks like it’ll be marketed at the vast new drone crowd (has GoPro just had their marching orders?!) and a new Teranex Mini – a cross between Blackmagic’s own Teranex range and their Mini Converter range. Presumably it’s a one box does it all scenario. There was also some leaked specs of an upgraded 4K Pocket Cinema Camera (but they could be fake).
No official press releases to share (yet) but here’s some unofficial pictures that just managed to get onto the world wide web…
Teradek
Teradek have launched their new VidiU Pro – a streaming device featuring bonding over mixed sources including WiFi, Ethernet, and 4G LTE
Canon
Several days ago, Canon announced the successor to the popular C300, the aptly named C300 MKII. It’s essentially a 4K version of the original C300, with some additional features thrown in.
The XC10 looks like a GH4 competitor but it’s more camcorder than DSLR. 4K recording with a 12-megapixel 1″ CMOS sensor and a fixed F2.8-5.6 image stabilised lens.
Sony
This is possibly the most exciting new product launched so far – and not one that was particularly a shock (it’s been on the cards for over a year now). The Sony HDC-4300 is a 4K system camera with a 2/3″ B4 lens mount. It’s essentially the new version of the HDC-2500 and it marks a significant moment for the future of 4K broadcasting – and some would say it’s the missing piece of the 4K jigsaw in the studio and outside broadcast markets.
Grass Valley
Not to be outdone by Sony, Grass Valley announced the ‘industry’s first mainstream 4K/XS-HD camera/replay chain’ – its LDX 4K/6X HD switchable camera, the LDX 86 Universe, in tandem with the K2 Dyno Universe Replay System
LiveU
Another potential ‘game-changer’ from LiveU – a service to allow broadcasters to share incoming live feeds simultaneously with multiple end-points over the internet. This could change the way we broadcast signals from A to B.
Ross
A new mixer to add to their current Carbonite range – the Carbonite Black. Sexy name hey? It’s has 3 full ME banks, 36 Inputs and 22 outputs and can handle 4K/UHD.
Thanks to @ErikNaso and @noamkroll for the Twitter updates and photos.
